Young Victoria

I watched this last night. I don't think I've enjoyed Orlando Bloom as much as I did in this movie. Thanks for the recommendation, Courtney.

BQE

Sufjan's film on the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens expressway). Pitchfork has the whole 50 minute film on it's website for this week only. Sufjan composed all of the music for this..he's just that good. I think it's beautiful. It also helps me appreciate traffic. I guess..
This was my favorite part:

room thought

if I could wear a long drawn-out sigh on my wrist or neck that would be great. then everyone would know how I am feeling.

drip

Your digits drip from your appendages
Like the seconds drip from the minutes that drip from the days.
Slow and steady
Dew dripping from my skies

I feel like the wrong shape in the wrong place
I guess that’s fitting

I feel like the black sheep in the white parade
I guess that’s fitting

I’ve been having love/hate relationships with people these days
They drip through my consciousness,
They drip through tasteless.

I just want to love you

Style Identity

I have been kind of looking around and wondering whose style I admire most. I am already obsessed with Alison Mosshart, and wish I could be spot on cool like she is all the time. I got the leather jacket, the studded leather ankle boots, the black, the leopard print, the fur coat. However, I enjoy some styles that she would never wear. I like little bows and hair clips and lace. I also enjoy hot rollers and how my hair looks after I use them. And dresses. I love dresses. So, after much research I've decided that Zooey Deschanel fits this gap for me. Yeah, yeah, predictable. But, I don't care. She's so classic and always looks put together. I'm trying to mix Alison and Zooey together but not copy and paste them exactly. Style role models.

PB&J

I forgot to tell you! I had a peanut butter and jelly cupcake from Sweet yesterday, and it is going on the list of my favorite things.

not the one I ate, but you get the idea. I'm planning on making some myself eventually. I think jelly in the middle is a brilliant idea.

I had to share this. I found this top on TopShop tonight, and totally LOL'd. Take a look. On the top is my $11 dollar goodwill top, and on the bottom is the $135 TopShop top. I have to say, I like mine a lot more. I'm not sure I like the obvious butterfly TopShop threw on..I also like the color of mine better. I mean, my top is a nice quality piece..it's 100% Indian silk. Man, after seeing this I really felt like a stole a great piece.

fishnets and honeydew

Today I spent the afternoon with some lovely friends downtown. We got lunch and frozen yogurt. I decided on honeydew. I wore my cropped American Apparel t-shirt, fishnet tights, and brown tweed shorts with braided black belt to class it up, I also wore my strappy black Nine West heels. Also, my new favorite blazer.

friends.

I decided that I don't believe in best friends. There are only people that stay in your life and people that are not meant to be there.

tape and glue

I wash my eyes out with soap
And rinse my mouth so things are clear.
So my words don’t get jumbled
And my vision stays sincere.

I paste my heart in pieces on the wall
And tie my arteries in knots to lighten the fall

I string my erythrocytes together
And patch up my bruises and nicks
So my blood stays clean
And flows through me thick

I tape my lungs in strips against the wall
And split my bronchiole apart to lessen the fall

I lock my neurons in a box
And keep the axons securely behind locks
So my brain can think what it thinks
Without useless input or cheap tricks.

nature and life and stuff

eh, I was bored and just knocked this out.

I would love to own this.

I have a thing for anatomically correct hearts. 1. I believe that love is the most important thing and is the cure for most of the world's issues. 2. I love biology and all things with the human body. The human heart is just beautiful. It pumps life into you everyday with the grace of a finely tuned instrument. I would love this necklace. All I can do is look at it for now.

Esben & the Witch- "Lucia, at the Precipice"

dark and lovely.

rolling with the hommies

I purchased a set of hot rollers a couple of months back because I kept forgetting to bring my older set home with me to Orlando, and for some reason every time I used a curling iron my hair resembled a rat's nest that just got worse if I touched it and tried to fix it. Let me tell you, hot rollers are the freaking bomb. All you have to do is wait for them to heat up, put them in and take them out. Then, TADA! you have magic perfect hair! I've been trying to not use them everyday, but it's hard.

None of our friends will come
They dodge our calls
And they have for quite a while now
It's not a shock
You don't seem to mind and I just can't see how

lucky number 13

I know this is a tad too late. but my little Christmas tree is still in my living room. That makes this perfectly applicable. Favorite Albums of 2009!

1. Passion Pit-Manners

This was the only music I listened to for probably 3 weeks straight. I adore them and their hyper awesome songs about love and the end of the world. They paint beautiful imagery and make great use of synthesizers by enhancing their music, not burying it.

2. Fever Ray-Fever Ray

Karen Dreijer just screams cool. I am a big fan of the Knife so when I saw she was recording a solo album I got really excited. She makes her music an art form. She twists her voice into something creepy and hypnotic. Some of the songs I actually don't like listening to if I'm home alone..they're just that creepy. The videos that accompany the songs are also beautiful. They match up exactly with what you picture in the songs.

3. The Antlers-Hospice

I unfortunately, did not get this album until many months after it was released, but I made up for it in listening time. The album is a concept album about the frontman's relationship with someone close to him (girlfriend, wife, sister, no one knows) who dies of cancer. It would make more sense if it was a romantic relationship as there is one song about a pregnancy and them debating what to do. It is a beautiful and heart-wrenching album with a lush and sorrowful sound. You can literally hear his pain through the songs.

4. Laura Veirs-July Flame

The first time I hear Laura was when she opened for the Decemberists back in September. I immediately fell in love with the folky sound and beautiful lyrics. She paints beautiful pictures with her songs and they make you feel comfy and relaxed. It kind of feels like saturated sunlight or a clear and starry summer sky. I picked purchasing her album instead of the merch of the band I was there to see. As a plus for buying it then I actually got it 5 months early and discounted. What a treat.

5. Timber Timbre-Timber Timbre

Timber Timbre is great. A few years ago I may not have liked them. The sound is very soulful and dark. Think New Orleans out in the bayou. And voodoo and zombies and other spooks. It's just so calming and different. They had me at "I was a spook for you, another ghoul."

6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs-It's Blitz

I was super excited for the new YYY album, especially since they hadn't come out with anything new in a while. The first song I heard was while I was watching the video for "zero". Back shot of Karen O slipping into a leather jacket and then singing about putting your leather on was enough for me. Just kidding, there are a lot of other things about this album that I like. I feel like they took it down a notch with this one. Skeletons and Runaway are pretty slow-paced. The album is a little more dance and a little less rough.

7. Bat For Lashes-"Two Suns"

As soon as I heard her first single, "Daniel", I knew I would need to get her new album. Khan is a master at what she does. This album goes along with her duel persona, (not Sasha Fierce) Pearl and the sort of struggle she has with this duel persona. The vocals are lush and the songs feature many different sounds.

8. Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

One number: 1901. This song opened up a lot of doors for this French Band. The album is energetic and light. If you want something to brighten up a car ride or a dull day, let Amadeus do that for you.

9. The Dead Weather- Horehound

Alison Mosshart! Alison Mosshart! If you want to feel as B.A as possible let this album do that for you. The Dead Weather is actually Jack White's new band, and includes Alison of the Kills and members from the Raconteurs. It's very very rock. Guitars, Drums, Bass. If I were to give you a definition of "real" rock in the modern day I would definitely say The Dead Weather, hands down.

10. The XX- XX

The XX released their first album and generated a lot of recognition right off the bat. Beautiful vocals, beautiful lyrics, beautiful sounds. I feel the best place to be while listening to the album is somewhere urban and deserted at night. Not that I personally have done this, but I feel like I want to while this is playing.

11. Bellarive- The Being Human Project

Bellarive is actually the worship band for The Element (youth group I volunteer with). They are all really great people and have a lot of talent and a lot of love for our Saviour. They're definitely revolutionizing Christian Culture. Itunes doesn't even classify them as Christian music because they don't "sound" like typical Christian music. They are actually staring to generate a lot of interest from the music industry. They just officially formed last year and already things are happening. It's beautiful and it's real.

12. St. Vincent- Actor

St. Vincent is a lovely person that makes lovely songs. Her voice is very distinct and her music is classy.

13. The Middle East- The Recordings of The Middle East

This band is from Australia. I was so happy about the release of this EP. I actually had the song, "Blood" for a while from a free CD. I played it over and over. It's so pretty..I just feel like I should be in a cabin up in the mountains when I listen to this. Once the EP was released and the lyrics became readily available I realized just how much more I loved them. The music is beautiful enough to love if you can't understand a word or two. But man, knowing all of what they say really makes it better. Very melancholy and rustic.
Favorite verse that makes me cry every time:
"older father, weary soul, you'll drive
back to the home you made on the mountainside
with that ugly, terrible thing
those papers for divorce
and a lonely ring
a lonely ring
sit on your porch
and pluck your strings
and you'll find somebody you can blame
and you'll follow the creek that runs out into the sea
and you'll find the peace of the Lord."

Goodwill is the real deal

$5.00 in the little boys section at the Goodwill Boutique in Winter Park. It actually came as a whole tux set. Fits me perfect as I have been having trouble finding blazers that don't overwhelm me. This blazer hits me perfectly at the hip and doesn't make my shoulders look ginormous. Good save.
